HMC News – August 2025

A new article appearing in the current issue of the peer-reviewed Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry explores the concept of “superfoods” and makes a case that fresh grapes have earned what should be a prominent position in the superfood family. More than 60 peer-reviewed studies have been published in the scientific literature on grapes and health that explore the positive effects grape consumption has on heart health, brain, skin, immune health, and more from the over 1,600 bioactive compounds found in grapes, including antioxidants and polyphenols.

Schools across the country have already started or are getting ready to start back up again and our Foodservice offerings fit perfectly for any school needs. Lunch Bunch is the original Foodservice grape
and it features perfectly portioned 2 – 4 oz clusters of fresh grapes. Grape Escape make serving grapes even easier by taking all the prep work out of grapes. Each bag contains a half cup of grapes that are
washed and ready to enjoy. Kids love grapes and over the last few years we have been able to expand our Lunch Bunch and Grape Escape packs to include green grapes in August – October. Learn more about all of our grape opportunities at grapesforschools.com.

Grape harvest continues to ramp up with all of our mid-season varieties coming into production. Krissy and Bebop red seedless are in full swing, along with Ivory and Timpson green seedless. These grapes are absolutely delicious. The cooler days and nights have encouraged color and flavor development, making this year one of the best we’ve ever seen for table grapes. Be sure to book your ads and celebrate the sweet flavors of grapes from HMC Farms.

The Valley experienced some unexpected rainstorms amid the hundred-degree heat this month. Timing wise, this was similar to when we experienced a bit of rain last year. In general, our tree fruit and table grapes fared well. There are only several varieties of tree fruit left to pick. The fruit looks good, and we expect a strong end to our tree fruit season.
