In a 3 year research project titled, Cardiovascular health benefits of peaches and plums : Screening Peach, Nectarine, and Plum Varieties for Human LDL Oxidation Inhibition , David Byrne and Luis Cisneros have released evidence showing that California plums have as much or more antioxidant activity as the blueberry.
Twenty peach, nectarine and plum varieties were collected in California with the collaboration of the CTFA and Dr. David Ramming (USDA, ARS, Parlier, CA) at mature firm stage, packed in boxes and sent via overnight mail to Texas A&M University. Once the pits were removed, the samples were stored at -20 °C.
