Spring has sprung and the San Joaquin Valley is getting ready to burst with great fruit!
HMC Farms Foodservice is working hard to provide the foodservice segment it’s usual quality fruit especially grapes.
Lunch Bunch ® grapes are available year round and we are currently shipping Lunch Bunch ® Crimson Seedless grapes from Chile. We will continue to ship Chilean fruit into the first week of June or so. We should begin harvest in Mexico and Coachella that same first week of June, so supplies might be tight for a week or so. We expect pricing to rise slightly as we work to meet the Mexico/Coachella growing regions,
Conventional Red grapes are still in the marketplace from Chile. Mexico and Coachella should begin harvest about May15th and be in full production by the last week of May.
Conventional Green Grapes out of Chile are in very tight supply with quality what you would expect at the end of their season. Perlettes should begin being harvested in Mexico and Coachella by the end of this week and green grapes should also be in good supply by the end of May.
We really want to provide you with grapes anyway your customers need them. From conventional bagged red or green grapes in an 18# box or a 5# box; Lunch Bunch ® 2-4 ounce portioned grapes ready to wash and serve; Grape Escape ® grapes off the stem washed and ready to eat in 2 or 3 ounce bags; or ONEders ® the same grapes off the stem washed and ready to eat in 1 pound, 2 pound or 4 pound trays.
There is a recommend proposed rule that would require schools to increase the availability of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free and low-fat fluid milk, reduce the levels of sodium and saturated fat in meals. The effort is to offer more nutritious meals and improve the dietary habits of school children and protect their health.
